Ninjago Pilot Part 2: King of Shadows
Well, even the title for this episode is super dramatic. This is gonna be great.
(By the way, if you didn’t catch the last episode, join me here)
We begin:
They broke the ship. That's the first thing they did was break the ship. Well, okay, the first thing they did was Jay playing "I Spy," but breaking the ship was the second thing. Good start.
How long do you suppose Sensei Wu has been posing there like that? Does he do it for any reason other than to impress these random guys he picked up, or...
Thank you, Sensei, I had actually forgotten what the four elements were. And that it's lightning instead of air. And I needed those dramatic poses you did to help me remember. Thanks.
He just created tea out of nothing. Sensei Wu is clearly the most powerful being in this universe.
HOW was that not you, Cole? YOU WERE DRIVING.
We may be here, Wu, but ... Cole definitely crashed the ship.
Are you seriously making the exact same mistake? There was a dragon! It was going to wake up!
Glad we spent all that time last episode getting the scythe so we can now get all three of these other magical weapons in about 5 minutes.
Or 2 weapons, because we have to take a dance break.
Nobody knows how to dance. None of this is dancing. You should all be ashamed.
Oh shooot Nya's being shady. Is it actually Nya? A hallucination? A dream perhaps?
Oh nooooo Nya turned into Garmadon
I don't think this is a dream, guys. Nya's gonna die.
So Kai did the thing the villain wanted him to do, which is always a good sign
And now he's fighting his own shadow.
And now he's fighting a lot of his own shadow.
And now the shadows have the magical sword.
Oh, it's okay, Wu's here to save everything. Why does he need the ninjas, again?
Seriously they're such a liability.
Noooooooo Wu don't sacrifice yourself. It's literally not worth it. These guys are useless
So we've got skeletons and a dragon to deal with now, and no Wu to save everyone's asses this time, so basically the world is gonna end.
What is the speed minimum required to cross into the underworld? Not much faster than a tree-jumping ninja, apparently.
Best ninjas. As I've said before and I'm sure I will say again, I definitely trust the fate of the world to these guys.
Welp, that's the end of the show. The ninjas lost, Garmadon won, thank you everyone for joining me.
OH WAIT Wu's going to save the universe even though he's literally in the underworld.
Where the heck is Kai? And Nya?
KAI HOW
WHAT DID YOU DO
YOU TRAINED A DRAGON HOW
Oh my word Jay this is not the TIME
They all have dragons now.
...
I'll allow it.
I'll give this show one thing: the soundtrack is not bad.
I love a good idiot henchman. There's nothing worse than a Skeleton #314 without personality.
Hang on. I only just noticed. When did they get new outfits? It's only the second episode. Is this going to be a thing? How often are they going to change? Where did they get new outfits??
Hahahaha Jay sees the spider but he can't talk and they're joking about how peaceful it is now that he can't talk hahaha but seriously guys there's a giant spider.
So much for stealth.
That is a very good question, is it ninjas or ninja? I think the skeleton is right, it is just ninja. Honestly, I'll probably keep saying ninjas because I'm trying to be witty with my incorrect grammar.
I don't like how the spiders' eyes glow red.
Ooh pretty Tornado of Creation
I mean not really, because the animation is bad, but I'm trying to be nice and pretend it's not.
Why does everyone assume "this is ___'s fight," and not help with the very dramatic fight, when said person has given no indication that they don't want help, and is also potentially losing.
Oh no the unnamed skeleton henchman betrayed Garmadon and is trying to claim the power for himself! What a plot twist! He's definitely not going to die in some dramatic and unforseen manner.
Oh no, the unnamed skeleton henchman died in some dramatic and unforseen manner!
Oh yeah, also Garmadon succeeded in his plot to ... rip a hole in spacetime?
And so everyone won because Garmadon escaped, but everything's fine and the ninjas have the golden weapons, but also Garmadon's coming back at some point.
"It's not over. Lord Garmadon will return," they said, in the pilot of a show, in which it was already clear that Lord Garmadon would be returning.
I do not understand the end credits song for this show.
So ... that's the pilot. Great stuff. Join me next time when I watch and I'm sure thoroughly judge Ninjago episode 1: Rise of the Snakes. (Just a guess but I think it might have something to do with snakes.)
