What I do

Writing

I have a lot of experience writing all kinds of things, from narrative fiction to analytical papers, poetry, and everything in between. I’m currently working on my second novel! The first isn’t published yet but I’m sending it to publishers, so keep an eye out!

Editing

I have a good eye for spelling, grammar, and punctuation, not to mention decades of experience with the art of storytelling and looking over emails and newsletters.

Art

My visual art is sporadic at best; I usually work with words. Still, I’ve made some sticker-worthy pieces and my friends seem to like them.

Photography

I’m just an occasional artistic photographer, as a hobby, but I think I do pretty well.

Blogs

Yeah yeah, I explain over there.

Why should you care?

I want you to take advantage of my skills. I want to help make your projects that much better, so please contact me! If you want someone to look over your story or paper, check marketing emails before you send them out, set up a basic, attractive website, or, well, lots of other things, hit me up. You never know what I can do unless you ask!

But Who Is Ria?

I’m basically they/them, but really you can use whatever pronouns you want. I know the url is “SHEthedistance” but please refer to me as he, or they, or it, or king queen prince princess lord helicopter whatever you can come up with. Do it. Especially if it’s funny.

Thank you so much for asking!

No, that’s not me, that’s a dog. It’s not
even my dog. Her name is Rumba.
I’m a human, in case you were wondering.

I’m a mid-20’s, extremely queer creative person who reads way too much, writes my novels during church services (sorry Rick; would you believe it helps me focus?), draws sometimes, takes artsy photos sometimes, works as a barista sometimes, and generally exists in the world.

Okay, okay, most of that you could have figured out from the stuff above this, so I’ll give you a bit more. I’ve spent most of my life in Colorado. I went to college in California and studied English and Communications.

Then✨COVID-19✨ hit—you might be familiar—and I was forced to come home from school… and I didn’t go back. Since then, depending on how you define it, I’ve either been doing my own thing for the past few years, or lots of other different people’s things. It’s been great.

I started my first serious, want-people-to-read-this story in seventh grade; I think I might still have it, actually. It was terrible, trust me, but I’m much, much better now, understanding words and having actually studied literature and the like. The Peregrine (coughfirst chapter on my writing pagecough) is my first real, finished novel, and I’m sending it out all over the place until someone likes it enough to publish! So hopefully, in the near future, that’ll be a thing that you can read. I’m working on my second novel now, and it’s… well, I’m a quarter of the way through and it’s already longer than the entirety of The Peregrine so we’ll see where that goes.

Alright, cool, this is more than you wanted to know, probably, but that’s me. That comment is just speculation, as I am awesome and everyone wants to know me, but I’m trying to be modest here, okay? I’m not shy anymore so now I get to be everyone else’s problem.

If you want me to help you out with something, or literally if you feel like saying hi (I love saying hi, but fair warning, I’m terrible at small talk), well, I’m sure you can figure out how to do that.
